The objective of the speaker enclosure is to eliminate
the sound... ?!
In fact, the objective is to contain the
sounds produced by the rear part of the speaker (driver).
The speaker generates sound (sonic waves)
by moving the air in front of it, but it also moves the air that is behind it.
These
back waves can end raising or cancelling some parts (frequency ranges) of the
sound that is being reproduced, generating distortions in the waves that reach
our ears. So, the speakers are put in boxes that “arrest” these undesirable waves.
The
problem is that the enclosures end up causing other types of distortions and
limitations.
To
solve that there are lots of types of acoustic enclosures, which will be the
subject of the next text.
See
you!
